He’s worried about that lady. She’s been coming here for years, ever since he opened — she was practically his first customer — but there’s something wrong. Look at the way she’s flicking through that paper. Should he go over and say something? But then, her problems could hardly be worse than his own.

It occurs to him he doesn’t even know her name. Some regulars are like that.
